Youth sentenced to life imprisonment for raping schoolgirl
A court has sentenced a young man named Khairul Islam (24) to life imprisonment in a case of rape of a schoolgirl in Chuadanga. At the same time, he was fined Tk 50,000 and sentenced to another six months in prison in default.
This Sunday afternoon, Judge Syed Habibul Islam of the Chuadanga Women and Child Abuse Prevention Tribunal announced the verdict in the presence of the accused.
The convicted Khairul Islam is the son of Sirajul Islam of Buzruk Gargari Madrasapara in the municipal area.
According to the case file, on the afternoon of September 7, 2024, Khairul picked up a schoolgirl on an easy bike on the pretext of marriage from the Chuadanga Government Women’s College intersection on the way home.
Later, at around 1 am, he took her to a bamboo grove in Sumirdia in the municipal area and raped her and threatened to kill her if she told anyone.
The next day, the victim’s father filed a case with the Chuadanga Sadar Police Station as a plaintiff. On September 20, 2024, the investigating officer of the case, Sub-Inspector Jagadish Chandra Basu of Chuadanga Sadar Police Station, filed the chargesheet.
Maruf Sarwar Babu, Public Prosecutor (PP) of Chuadanga Judge’s Court, said, “The victim’s family members were present in the court when the verdict was announced. They expressed satisfaction with the court’s verdict and demanded speedy execution of the sentence.”
